Inception Workshop of EU co-funded project “Women Leaders – Power of Change, Wanawake Viongozi – Nguvu ya Mabadiliko”

From 25th to 28th of April Hanns Seidel Foundation arranged an Inception Workshop to initiate the Project “Women Leaders-Power of Change” at the Beachcomber Hotel and at Hanns Seidel Foundation office.

The European Union is co-funding the three years Project (2017-2019), led by Hanns Seidel Foundation and the three implementing Partners: Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP), Women Fund Tanzania (WFT),  and Centre for Good Governance and Economic Development (CGG&ED). The project´s goal is to ensure women`s full and effective participation and equal opportunities for leadership at all levels of decision-making in political, economic and public life.

Within the project, tailor made training programs for 200 women are foreseen who are interested in vying for political positions in the 2019 local and 2020 general elections. Further activities include training of the Monitoring and Communication Department of ORPP in order to build their capacities to institute, monitor and document policies and laws that increase participation and representation of women in political parties. Meanwhile WFT will implement a project component on increasing knowledge and exchange between organisations active in the field of women political empowerment by creating a respective database will be accessible online. The inception workshop was supported by Anne Schley, EU Project Coordinator Development Policy and Cooperation, from HSF Brussels and Angélique Echtermeyer, Project Manager for Sub-Saharan Africa, from HSF headquarters Munich. They supported the event by providing their expertise on EU project implementation guidelines. The workshop also offered an opportunity to the newly recruited Project Manager, Herry Lugala, and Finance and Operation Officer, Mohamed Shabani, to introduce themselves to the EU management team.

Participants of the workshop constituted of representatives from all partner organisations. They presented their specific project timeline: WFT will map organisations which are active in the field of women empowerment. CGG&ED will train women aspirants for political leadership and ORPP will develop a monitoring matrix with gender sensitive indicators. The Focal Persons Rose Julius (WFT), Enock Kadege (CGGED) and Peter Sobe (ORPP) had the chance to exchange knowledge, views and opinions on activities of the Project.
